Pick List: Hot Weather Beauty

A round-up of the best hot weather beauty finds. Tried & true, these are all picks I recommend (& swear by) for the heat.

ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr is one of those beauty brands that has a cult-like following. I’ve seen countless insanely positive reviews for their mattifying setting spray and blurring setting powder. It’s been on my list to pick one of those up for a while, but setting sprays and powders last forever and I’m still working on the ones I already have & love.

This summer, they dropped a hydrating setting spray that caught my eye. I have nothing like it and, honestly, I don’t see a lot like this on the market. This setting spray promised to hydrate skin and melt powder products seamlessly while lasting all day. I was sold. As someone with combination skin, in the summer, even with primers and setting sprays, my oiliness creeps in almost immediately once I finish my makeup. So, of course, setting powder is a must for my makeup to last more than an hour. But there is nothing more disappointing than spending time creating a look you love and then, ultimately, looking dry and like you have too much makeup on. What Patrick Starrr did with this spray is cater exactly to this issue. This spray not only sets makeup and makes it last but it goes on top of setting powders and truly does melt them in. I’ve only been using this for a few weeks but I am so impressed with how hydrating it is and how it brings life back to my face after powder.

If you have long hair, curly or wavy hair, or even just easily overheat, you know how overstimulating it can be to style your hair with heat in the summer. Nothing like sweating while blow-drying, spending almost an hour trying to tame your hair just for it to be completely undone the second you step outside into the humidity.

Air dry creams seem to have taken off recently, for that exact reason or because more brands are coming out with their take on one. Whatever the case, I’m so glad I found the JVN Air Dry Cream. Work it through wet hair like a leave in, scrunch or comb, depending on your hair and what style you want, and hair dries beautifully in a low-frizz, hydrated and non-crunchy (gel girls know exactly what I mean) wave.

I’ve been collecting perfumes since elementary school when I could pick one out if I scored in my soccer games. It’s one of my favorite things to explore, test and gift to others. There are countless scents I could point to as a favorite, for different occasions, seasons, events or every day. But if there is one thing I swear by when it comes to fragrance, it’s a body mist. I love throwing one on before going on a walk, to a pilates class, to work or to a coffee shop and getting a nice scent of it as I go about my day.

I’ve been loving the Sol de Janeiro 62 for years. It has notes of pistachio and caramel so it’s sweet but not too heavy. I wanted to venture out and try another this summer and the OUAI St Bart’s fit the bill. With dragon fruit and orange blossom, it’s tropical & light but the addition of musk gives it a nice warmth as well. One of those scents that just smells like summer.

This concealer is the perfect mix of lightweight coverage and anti-crease. I love how the coverage is buildable without looking cakey, how it hydrates the under eyes, which can so easily look dry, and how light it feels and looks. I would compare this to the Kosas Revealer concealer, which boasts similar ingredients like hyaluronic acid and caffeine. In my opinion, and for my skin-type, the Danessa Myricks wins hands down. I’ve used the Kosas before and while it can be hydrating, I find it separates fairly quickly on me, even with proper skin prep. This is my first Danessa Myricks product but I definitely have my eye on the Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder next.

And finally, it wouldn’t be a hot weather beauty article without mentioning the Milk Makeup hydro grip primer. This has been a staple for me for years. It has hyaluronic acid and niacinamide, two skincare ingredients that are, for me, an absolute perfect pair. The gel finish helps prep skin with a grip that doesn’t feel sticky and doesn’t make makeup patchy. They have a Hydro Grip setting spray that is equally as good.
